RAISING THE BAH
The Goring Hotel in London claims to be the British capital’s last remaining family-owned luxury hotel. Beyond all the usual trimmings, it has a rather charming tradition of dotting the premises with toy sheep. The story goes that, with its beautiful gardens and quiet location, guests often commented that it had the peace and calm of a country hotel.
One day, driving through the countryside, Mr Goring came across a woman who made delightful wooden sheep with real sheepskin. He bought one and it was so popular with the guests that he commissioned more.
Today, the hotel is famous for the sheep that dot its grounds and even wait on guests’ beds, ready to welcome them.
