SANGRIA

Pick n Pay food expert Yvonne Short shares a thirst-quenching idea that will beat the heat. The better quality the wine, the better the sangria

MAKES 1.5 LITRES

2 apples, washed and cubed 1 orange, sliced

45ml (3 tbsp) brandy, optional 30-45ml (2-3 tbsp) caster sugar 1 x 750ml bottle of red wine 150ml fresh orange juice 500ml soda water, optional To garnish:

Ice cubes A couple of hours before serving, place the apple cubes and orange slices in the base of a tall glass jug. Pour over the brandy, add the sugar. Cover and set aside. Just before serving, pour over the red wine, orange juice and soda, if using. Stir well to combine. Add orange and lemon slices, lots of ice and serve.
