Taking the fight game by storm
● Even when Rofhiwa Maemu was taking fights 6kg above his natural weight class, he still managed to win.
He registered a sensational first-round stoppage victory over then undefeated junior-welterweight prospect Adam de Moor.
Maemu had read about former world champion Vic Toweel, but didn’t know he was the uncle of Alan junior before joining the trainer.
Maemu has lost twice under Toweel, including a controversial one to SA featherweight champion Azinga Fuzile in his East London home town.
Toweel doesn’t attach much credence to unbeaten records. “I don’t care when guys lose, it’s an opportunity to grow.”
Now Maemu has been offered a spot to replace the ill Fuzile in Rodney Berman’s Super Four featherweight final against Lerato Dlamini.
