Tsamaya This week’s soccer buzz

-

● Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter went white with fear when Sunday Times Zulu warrior Bareng-Batho “BBK” Kortjaas pulled out his spear at a breakfast at Sunnyside Park Hotel this week. To give the coach credit, though, Baxter got in a few hits. We at Tsamaya know how difficult that can be! And it did all end with a handshake and a grin.

● Steve Komphela’s English artistry is tough to follow. After the 3-1 thumping by Orlando Pirates, the Kaizer Chiefs coach commented: “We played, they scored.” If that was not bizarre enough, captain Itumeleng Khune took strange to another level with this gem:“Pirates beat us on paper.” Does that make Chiefs paper tigers?

● People are calling Bafana Bafana a bunch of losers. No, the national team are a bunch of visionaries. They refused to go to Russia because they knew about listeriosis months before it happened. With all the hysteria caused by listeria in these post-polonial times, Bafana are safe not mixing with the Russians, inedible or human.

● Hendrick Ekstein blocked a scribe for criticising his football ability on twitter and while “Pule” won that battle, Xola Mlambo showed him flames in the football war. With the Soweto Derby settled in the 88th minute, Mlambo turned the legend like Mninawa Ntloko turns his steaks on a well-made fire on a Saturday afternoon. Leave the selfies to us and stick to your day job, buddy.

● Speaking of the esteemed Mr Ntloko, the football wordsmith added another year on Friday. “Xhegs” may not have enjoyed seeing his favourite Chiefs player being put on the footballing spit braai but we know he had a good birthday. Here's to another year of excellent journalism, Xhegs.
