Some Uber drivers in China, in 2016, reportedly went through a phase of using scary profile pics — often looking like zombies — to scare off passengers. The idea was that, once the passenger got their booking confirmation showing the “creepy“driver, they would cancel the ride — and the driver would still earn a cancellation fee without having to actually go anywhere.
