Taste, we all know is a subjective thing, and for a profession­al opinion we turned to Professor Gerrie du Rand of the Department of Consumer and Food Sciences at the University of Pretoria and the final-year students for a blind tasting of the products. Using the facilities at the department the products were unwrapped, numbered and where required prepared exactly to package instructio­ns. The students were divided into five groups of six people each who rated the product in a blind tasting according to appearance, aroma, taste, texture and whether they would consider buying it. What is interestin­g is that there is always a clear winner in each category and the comments reflect similar sentiments.
