Fort Hare ‘subversive’

The son of a village carpenter, Robert Mugabe was trained as a teacher at a Roman Catholic mission college. He was introduced to nationalist politics while he was a student at Fort Hare. In 1964 he was arrested for a “subversive speech” and spent the next 10 years in prison
