Nomonde Scott’s journey
1996
● Nomonde Scott, a Cape Town Magistrate’s Court prosecutor and mother of three, is convicted of a drug-related offence and sentenced to 12 years behind bars.
1997
● Scott loses her appeal and becomes a “fugitive from justice to give birth” in the Eastern Cape.
1998
● She gives birth to Lubelo before she is arrested and starts serving her sentence.
2005
● Days before her release on parole her eldest son, Bevile, is murdered in Gugulethu.
2006
● Scott enrols at the University of the Western Cape for an LLB degree.
2008
● She graduates and registers for her master’s degree.
2010
● On the day she publishes a book about her life — Look Before You Leap — she receives a presidential pardon.
