- Salima Abdel-Wahab gives us an insider’s look into her latest collection

Cape Town Fashion Week

Tell us about the history of your brand? I was born and raised in Tangier, where the traditions of the West and East meet. That is what inspires me — the intermingling of different sources of identity.

What is the Salima Abdel-Wahab aesthetic? It is one of plurality; an attempt to express as many aesthetics as there are personalities. I’m trying to create for a variety of people, temperaments and characters.

What is the story of the collection? Each of the 15 creations is a key that opens the border of each country crossed. Each collection is both a continuation of my research and a new experience. But this collection can be characterised by looks that are very different from each other because they are representative of a journey through Africa.

What was the process of making this collection? I let myself be guided by my intuition. Using the memory of images and objects, I was inspired to create the materials that I used for this collection.

Who is the Salima Abdel-Wahab client? Modern explorers who love freedom, and clothes that do not enclose, but instead open a wide field of possibility.
