STRETCHING UNDER

- Paul Ash

PROTEA BY MARRIOTT HAZYVIEW Hurawalhi Island Resort in the Lhaviyani Atoll in the Maldives made history late last month with the world’s first undersea yoga class — hosted in its 5.8 Undersea Restaurant.

The restaurant was converted into a yoga studio for the class, taught by South African-born Instagram star Jessica Olie.

The restaurant opened in 2016, taking its name from the depth at which it sits — 5.8m below the surface.

To access it, guests walk across a pier towards the resort’s over-water Aquarium Restaurant and head down a separate path to a long, winding staircase. Rates from $1 148 per person per night.
