The slang thesaurus for those old enough to remember dial-up

-

/SH-ook/

1. Shocked, outraged. “My crush is a misogynist — I’m shook.” Proper English synonym: Clutch your pearls.

2. To be in awe. “That new Beyoncé video has me shook.” Slang synonym: “My wig was snatched” or “my edges are gone” (to be explained at another time, folks).

3. When you didn’t see something coming, when you’re taken aback. “She was shook after I told her off.”

Note: ’Shook’ in the slang context isn’t about being left shaken following a traumatic event — it’s more suitable when you’re talking about RuPaul’s Drag Race-level drama.
