This week’s soccer buzz

-

● Pitso Mosimane is turning to the gods in a bid to help his two new players break the bad luck of Jeremy Brockie and Gaston Sirino, who both joined the Brazilians in January and were signed on the strength of their nose for goal. But, as yet, they have failed to find their samba in front of the posts. Mosimane thinks a sangoma is the solution. Perhaps Steve Komphela can hitch a ride with them to remove his own trophyless jinx.

● “I’m hoping we maintain the same squad because we’ve gelled well,” gushed Kaizer Chiefs left back Philani Zulu at a gloomy and cold Naturena this week.

But as to what kind of gel Zulu was on about as the results on the field have been the opposite, only God knows. Could it be that Zulu was talking about something else that he and his buddies get up to when they’re off the field? One wonders.

● “You can’t imagine a situation where there is cold wind coming and you are opening the cracks even further,” preached Steve Komphela to his charges after their humiliating defeat against Chippa United last weekend.

If it wasn’t the same Komphela who was in charge when Chippa toyed with them last week, we would believe his word. If only these Komphela sermons could be transferred into some real action on the field of play.
