Salah’s scores 40th goal as Liverpool make quick work of it

-

● Mohamed Salah yesterday took his tally for a remarkable debut season at Liverpool to 40 goals.

The latest strike came in Liverpool’s 3-0 routing of Bournemouth in the English Premier League.

The victory edged Liverpool closer to another European Champions League berth next season. This season they have reached the Champions League semifinals, to be played next week.

In the Premier League Liverpool are within one point of Manchester United, who are second in second place and who play West Bromwich Albion today.

Liverpool’s win yesterday also puts them 10 points ahead of fifth-placed Chelsea.

Chelsea maintained their faint hopes of a top-four finish by scoring three times in eight minutes to come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Southampton in a result warmly welcomed by Saints’ relegation rivals.

Huddersfield and Crystal Palace took full advantage with vital wins over Watford and Brighton to leave Southampton five points off safety.

Apart from Salah’s goal, Liverpool’s scorers yesterday were Sadio Mane in the seventh minute and Roberto Firmino in the 90th.

Meanwhile Wolves will return to the English Premier League next season after Fulham were held 1-1 by Brentford yesterday in the Championship. Wolves have an unassailable 10-point lead over Fulham with three games remaining.
