Big deals dine out on the small stuff in Fourways
● Seems tapas has usurped sushi in the trendy stakes, given that the Spanishinspired bite-sized snacks are also prominent in my second event for the week.
I found myself further up north of Joburg in Fourways to sample the new cocktail and tapas menu at the Carnelian restaurant in the Design Quarter shopping centre.
Guests include Ayanda Thabethe, who has brought along her makeup-artist sister, Mimi, and A-Lister It Girl Lerato Kganyago, who is working on something big after
Live Amp but is mum about the details. The guests sample arancini balls, braised oxtail and cheese croquettes, and smoked salmon fishcakes while sipping cocktails and wines.
I ask Ayanda where her other half, musician Mthoko “Dash” Mkhathini, is and the Top Billing presenter tells me he’s holed up in the studio, working on his first solo effort without his group,
Dreamteam.
Arriving from dinner downstairs at another restaurant is Iman Rappetti, all glammed up in a long printed gown bought in New York.
The broadcaster’s memoir, Becoming
Iman, which charts her colourful life, including a two-year stint as a devout Muslim in Iran, is set to be released next week and is bound to be a fascinating read.
“I’m so proud of you,” says Azania Mosaka, Iman’s former Power 98.7 colleague about the book.
