KZN’s political killing fields
Political killings continue to be a feature of political life in the province which has recently been rocked by intra-party violence between ANC members. According to the institute for security studies, KwaZulu-Natal accounts for the overwhelming majority of political killings in South Africa. There was a pronounced increase in these killings in the province between 2011 and 2012. They continued in 2013 and 2015, followed by a dramatic increase ahead of the 2016 local government elections and political killings continue unabated in the province even now.
