This week’s soccer buzz

-

● Celebrating your birthday is normally a time to party while you reflect on the year just gone by. One wonders, though, what went through Tendai Ndoro’s mind on Tuesday morning when his 31st birthday arrived alongside the news of his club Ajax Cape Town being relegated from the PSL’s top-flight due to his eligibility to play for the Urban Warriors. That must have created a sour end to Ndoro’s party, just as his team’s end of their PSL campaign was.

● There’s insult to injury, then there’s being very bitter. The latter applies to Sameehg Doutie, who took to Twitter to rejoice in Ajax Cape Town’s arbitration enforced demi se .“@ ajax cape town remember this ? I could’ve help you guys avoid this NFD situation now you have parted ways with the PSL!” We don’t know what kind of impact Doutie would have had, having scored only seven goals in four years when he was at the club. If he was good enough the club wouldn’t have released him in the first place!

● Kaizer Chiefs players must have learnt with some heavy heart this week that this year’s end-of-the-season player’s award gig has been canned due to their poor display on the field of play. Tsamaya would hope that this decision would go a long way in galvanising the spoilt brats of Naturena to come out of their shell next season. We can’t imagine Chiefs players stomaching another end of the season without having one of their most favourite shindigs.

● We have yet to see anyone with better skills at campaigning for a job. Steve Komphela figured this out when Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael started foaming at the mouth, long before he pressed the exit button. These days there’s no conversation that Eymael will have without mentioning Chiefs. This week, without much prompting, he gave Chiefs time frames to dangle their carrot if they’re really interested in him.
