WHAT’S SOUP WITHOUT BREAD ....

We love the large selection of different breads available in store. We share four new discoveries:

-

PRETZELS

These new pretzels with a light sprinkling of sea salt are delicious. Available in rolls too, they taste like the real thing — with the traditional coating too, they are nice and chewy, like they should be. Roll on the beer and the soup. Available from selected Pick n Pay bakeries, the pretzels are imported frozen and baked fresh.

SEEDY BREAD

We’ve gone seed mad and because they are so full of goodness we so enjoyed the new multiseed bread from Woolworths. It looks like a little hedgehog, studded with crushed wheat, and inside it’s packed with a blend of linseed, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and makes a complete meal with a bowl of soup.

DECADENT

Nothing new about garlic bread but take it a step further and add some chilli sauce and cheese, mmm .... We couldn’t resist the new sriracha ciabatta from Checkers. Think hot ciabatta roll sliced and oozing with a gooey spread of onion, garlic, sriracha sauce ( Thai chilli sauce) and cheese. Soup almost takes the back burner.

BRAAI BREAD

A South African braai essential, roosterkoek is delicious served straight off the coals. Spar Freshline roosterkoek saves the hassle of making the fire as they come freshly baked, with the grill marks nogal, and served hot with lots of butter, cheese or even jam, are delicious. Good value for money - they will jazz up a bowl of vegetable soup.
