The case against Patricia de Lille
Some of the investigations that have been launched since the falling out between Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille and the DA:
● Criminal complaints by the party against De Lille after businessman Anthony Faul accused her of soliciting a R5-million bribe from him. Faul claimed in an affidavit that he had applied for a contract with the City of Cape Town to supply fire extinguishers.
● A report by law firm Bowman Gilfillan and adopted by the council recommended that De Lille be investigated for allegedly preventing then city manager Achmat Ebrahim from reporting allegations of misconduct against transport commissioner Melissa Whitehead.
● The DA commissioned a probe, led by parliamentary chief whip John Steenhuisen, into tensions in the City of Cape Town caucus. The report accused De Lille of interfering in the appointment of the municipal manager. It also accused De Lille of patronage and protection of former Ses’Khona leader Loyiso Nkohla. Nkohla is infamous for poo protests at Cape Town International Airport.
● Based on the reports, the DA charged De Lille with maladministration and nepotism.
