Canadian cop show without the testosterone
It might have been cancelled in its homeland, but here the organisers pulled out all stops for the launch of Canadian all-woman murder investigation TV show, The Detail.
Arriving at the Saxon Hotel in Sandton, I was interviewed on the carpet by Kat Sinivasan, E! Entertainment’s local correspondent, before heading inside to say hello to Azania Mosaka, who was the night’s compere.
The 702 presenter, who wore a dustypink lace outfit, told me the nail bar and cosmetics business she is a partner in is growing from strength to strength.
The night’s drawcard was one of The
Detail’s leading ladies, Canadian actress Wendy Crewson.
She plays the tough-as-nails boss of the homicide unit on the show and the 62-yearold brunette (who looks at least a decade younger) is a lot bubblier in real life and relishing her time in this country.
“I went to a fantastic restaurant last night, and am looking forward to going on safari tomorrow,” she said, wearing a dazzling Michael Kors cocktail dress.
Guests included actors Bohang Moeko, who stars in Ring of Lies, and Motlatsi Mafatshe of Isidingo (the SABC3 soapie that has lost its lustre).
They mingled and milled around, snacking on American-inspired fare including clam chowder, mini hot dogs and salmon-lox bagels.
Then it was inside the hotel’s auditorium to watch the first episode of the drama before we were served even more food, including an assortment of pizzas, mini doughnuts and salted caramel popcorn.
And as for the show, which airs on DStv’s Universal TV Channel on Tuesday evenings and also features actresses Angela Griffin of
Coronation Street fame and Shenae GrimesBeech in starring roles?
Worth tuning in, if only to watch a cop drama without the testosterone in the time of #MeToo. But don’t wait too long because the show has only a 10-episode season before it’s gone for good.
