SA is saved? Doesn’t feel that way
Letepe Maisela (Letters, June 3) stated that by keeping quiet, Ramaphosa “saved our country from further unimaginable harm”. I’m not sure how a country that is so deep in deficit that it has to increase VAT, petrol levies and electricity tariffs can be said to have been “saved”. The only thing that was saved is probably Ramaphosa’s political career, or perhaps the ANC itself.
Surely, if state capture was nipped in the bud, better appointments would have been made to SARS and more efficient collection of tax would have been possible, and we would not have to be paying higher VAT. We would have curtailed plundering at Eskom and we would probably not be having to pay higher tariffs for electricity. Dr Kenosi Mosalakae, Houghton
