Setting the record straight
Your editorial “Light is being shone in dark, festering places all over the country” (May 27) included Sanral [as one of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan’s targets for clean-up]. The truth is that Sanral has never even been accused of being in breach of corporate governance regulations.
In March, former finance minister Trevor Manuel corrected an earlier statement he made in which Sanral was included among entities guilty of questionable corporate governance.
Also, Sanral does not report to the Department of Public Enterprises. For the past two decades, Sanral has reported to the minister of transport and no allegations of corruption or malfeasance have ever been proved against us. A new Sanral board will soon be appointed but this will be as part of a normal rotation when current terms come to a close.
