My perfect Father’s Day
GORDON WRIGHT
To me Father’s day is a day to just chill with the family and share a good meal and some sunshine. I’m not really big on gifts but a nice bottle of Scotch will always be appreciated.
We like to spend the day at home with a big family meal that everyone mucks in preparing.
My perfect lunch would be a few tasty grilled prawns to start followed by a nice lazy veld-reared brisket on the Weber, crispy bashed potatoes and a leafy salad, finished off with a baked chocolaty pudding and some homemade ice cream with a nice glass or two of wine to accompany it all. Oh, and an afternoon snooze...
As a dad to two rangy teenagers, Jason and Max, it is a tricky balancing act to always be their father yet to give them the right amount of guidance and discipline to ensure that you remain approachable.
My mom inspired my new cookbook. She passed away a few years ago and had such a deep love for food and cooking as I grew up. She was a busy mother of eight kids and was constantly trying to come up with creative and interesting ways to get us to eat. She used to use lots of old family recipes.
