MUSIC TO DOWNLOAD THIS WEEK

ALBUM Pusha T — Daytona

An easy contender for rap album of the year so far, this album is proof that there is still space for high-density, lyrically driven hip-hop. At seven tracks long it is bite sized but each morsel tastes like high-quality cocaine from the ’80s. It is good enough to make you forget the anticlimactic way his beef with Drake ended.

Kid Cudi and Kanye West — Kids See Ghosts

The latest in an unending stream of albums being released by GOOD Music record label sees controversial rapper Kanye West teaming up with his longtime collaborator and muse Kid Cudi with lukewarm results. It’s not a bad album but it doesn’t set one’s emotions on fire. Mind you, after three projects in three weeks and more to come, that could just be Kanye West-induced fatigue.

TRACKS Plested — Habits

If ever you find yourself in front of a fireplace with bae and feel like declaring some kind of deep-hearted emotion then just recite the lyrics to this song. It’s gorgeous and plays on the heart strings the way only a good folk singer can.

Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne — Rich Sex

On seeing her friend recently free from his label troubles, Minaj seems to have offered Lil Wayne a helping hand in kick-starting his career again. Her verse on the song is typically good and Rich Sex will no doubt ring out through clubs across the globe, but it definitely could’ve done without Weezy.

The Arctic Monkeys — The Ultracheese

Alex Turner’s languid and delicious ode to nostalgia is the stand-out track on the band’s latest album, Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino. We’ve already reviewed the album but this song’s seemingly limitless replay value necessitates a stand-alone shoutout.
