Ace the perfect blue eye look with make-up artist Raine Tauber’s easy application tips

-

Why do you think most designers are choosing a striking blue eye as the makeup look for their collections?

I think blue has been a very big colour on the runway this season in many forms, from powdery blue to deep sapphire tones. We are seeing it as a makeup trend because it’s daring and a more accessible way to wear colour.

What are your tips for choosing a flattering blue eye shadow or eyeliner shade for your skin tone?

I suggest basing that more on how you feel about the trend. I think sapphire and deeper tones are easier to wear because they are more similar to black, but if you want to try a bright blue, go for it. My best suggestion is always to try out the shade you are interested in before buying it. Pop into a store and let the artist try it on you. Walk around with it on for the day and see how you feel.

How would you a) dress up and b) dress down a blue eye look?

To dress up the look, I would use smoky eye techniques and wing the eye out a bit using a more shimmery sapphire blue. Add lots of mascara or even false lashes. If you feel daring pair this with a red lip for maximum impact. The inspiration is definitely ‘80s sex appeal. To dress it down, the rest of the face should be pared down with a nude lip and a subtle cheek. I would use more lining techniques for this. Rimming the eye with a blue liner and smudging the edges or even just a flick of a blue liquid liner will do the trick — minimal equals modern when it comes to dressing down this trend.
