Graffiti on a wall in central Johannesburg reminds passers-by that Thursday will mark six years since the Marikana massacre, which unfolded on August 16 2012 near Lonmin’s mine at Rustenburg in the North West. That day, 34 striking miners were killed and 78 injured when police opened fire while trying to put an end to their strike for a better wage.
