Could BEE redistribution not include black-owned companies?
Andile Khumalo’s “To BBBEE or not to BBBEE” (August 12) refers. In reality, BEE has favoured already advantaged black people. As a result the divide between SA’s (black and white) rich and marginalised people has grown ever wider.
Couldn’t we reduce unemployment and redistribute wealth if some BEE implementation were to include wholly-owned black businesses? Would Mr Khumalo, an entrepreneur, be willing to share his wealth by transferring 51% of his company to a marginalised black person wanting to escape poverty?
Maybe foreign companies would follow suit if we showed our intention was genuine economic transformation and not just the transfer of wealth from a chosen few to a chosen few.
