Women turn to ‘DIY abortion’
Global online searches for abortion pills have more than doubled over the past decade, according to a BBC analysis of Google searches. The channel also said findings suggested that in countries where abortion laws were more restrictive, there was greater search interest in abortion pills. By buying such pills online and sharing medical advice through WhatsApp groups, women were increasingly turning to technology to sidestep legal barriers to abortion, the BBC reported, labelling the phenomenon the modern face of the so-called “do-it-yourself abortion”
