Sunday Times WE MEET: KIRSTEN GOSS 2018-09-02 - TEXT: NOTHEMBA MKHONDO Jewellery designer Kirsten Goss is in the business of making must-have statement accessories with an undeniably unique twist Uma Thurman is the brand’s muse. I am in love with Chantecaille eye shadows — I went all the way to a store in Paris to get them. Sublime sultry metallics with a quirky palette and branding. Kirsten Goss jewellery is sophisticated, considered, fashion-led, fine jewellery. The latest collection, Wildcard, is all about the unexpected and is seriously luxe with rubies, sapphires and topazes, all mixed like a delicate, sophisticated cocktail. R2 690 I studied a BA Fine Art majoring in jewellery design and gemology at Stellenbosch University. I went to London and managed to get a job working for big-time fashion jewellery company Erickson Beamon. I then decided to go it alone and opened my first studio in Westbourne Grove/Notting Hill in 2002. That eventually rolled into opening a standalone shop in Kensington in 2005. FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM @kirsten___goss My favourite designer is Solange Azagury-Partridge — her fine jewellery line is truly original and brave. I love nothing more than someone willing to take risks and push boundaries in an otherwise stuffy traditional industry. My favourite city is Oslo — it’s got a bit to do with my Norwegian roots, but it’s unusual, less-visited than the usual suspects and I like the counterculture juxtaposed with the very traditional Norwegian vibe. It’s quite odd, which appeals to me. Beret, R850, therealcrystalbirch.com. Everyone should have a Crystal Birch beret, a statement coat by W35T or Marianne Fassler, and plenty of colour and pattern in their wardrobe. My style staples have lots of pattern. I revel in clashing fabrics, textures and pattern. The crazier the combo the more comfortable I am. Dress, Diesel, R5 699,011 783 0882 My favourite item of clothing at the moment is my new couture one-of-a-kind W35T coat, bought straight off the catwalk at this past Fashion Week in Cape Town. My favourite fragrance is the good old-fashioned Lime, Basil & Manderin cologne by Jo Malone, 100ml, R1 765 – it is so fresh, I never get bored. R282, exclusivebooks.co.za I just started reading ‘Season Of Glass’ by Rahla Xenopolous. I am transfixed by this writer.
