Not much left in life for drummed-out

-

“Drumming out” is being dishonourably dismissed from military service. During the US Civil War, an officer might have his head shaved and his uniform stripped of insignia before being paraded in front of his comrades. In more than one case after the war had ended a drummed-out man was found dead after a beating from his former comrades. When someone was being drummed out, the tune Rogue’s March would be played.
