Economic downturn

- Pule Mabe

In a normal society, politicians are made to retract their statements after an objection by the opposition because they are deemed offensive or inflammatory.

But not this Mampara of a special type. ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe was made to withdraw a statement by his own party, because of its idiotic contents.

He did the unthinkable and allowed a statement that sought to instruct the Reserve Bank on how to run its business to go out through the ANC mailing list.

ANC economics guru Enoch Godongwana objected, and the statement was withdrawn.

Mabe, who has only been in the job for seven months, is surely bound to be a regular in this column.
