Hogarth is quite fond of the ex-mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay. He is fluent in Xhosa, but it seems he’s not that fluent in the language of political back-stabbing.
On Monday Athol Trollip was licking his wounds at the Cape Town Press Club after being ousted by the unsophisticated loudmouth Mongameli Bobani with the help of Trollip’s own comrades. But it seems old Trollip hasn’t thrown in the towel yet. “I regard myself as a coelacanth,” he told the press club. “It’s an interesting fish that has been around for a long time. I regard myself as a political coelacanth.”
