S&P indices versus active SA scorecard

S&P Dow Jones Indices produces a scorecard showing how active fund managers performed relative to S&P indices. The latest scorecard, to June 2018, shows:

Equity

76% of actively managed South African equity funds underperformed the S&P SA DSW capped index over five years.

Global equity

96% of actively managed global equity funds available to South Africans underperformed the S&P global 1200 over five years. The S&P global 1200 is a composite index of seven global indices including the S&P500.

Bonds

50% of actively managed bond funds underperformed the S&P SA sovereign bond 1+ year index over five years.
