Next Sunday, November 4, will see the launch of Dynasties, an epic BBC wildlife series presented by Sir David Attenborough. Over five episodes, the series follows the lives of five of the world’s most iconic and endangered animals.

Full details of the series are still under wraps but to quote the BBC, the series “brings a bold, new level of real-life drama to the natural history genre, revealing the complexities of power, rivalry and tenderness in animal relationships”.

In late September, Paul Ash joined the makers of one episode in the Mana Pools National Park in Zimbabwe where they had spent years filming the internecine struggles beween two packs of wild dogs who were grappling for control of prime territory along the banks of the Zambezi River. Ash spent a few days in the park, speaking to the cameraman and producer as well as the people who live and work in one of Africa’s last great wildrnesses.
