Garth Napier has been appointed MD of short-term insurer Old Mutual Insure.

He joins Old Mutual Insure from Pep Africa, where he was MD and responsibl­e for more than 330 stores across seven countries. Before this, he was MD for the Edcon speciality division, comprising five chains with more than 700 stores in total.

Napier has a BCom (Hons) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and an MBA from Harvard University. Absa Group has appointed Charles Russon CEO of corporate and investment banking and Paul O’Flaherty leaves the board and joins the group executive committee as CEO for engineerin­g services.

Russon is currently the CEO for engineerin­g services, a position he has held since April 2018. He has been a member of the Absa Group executive committee since January 2014. He was the COO of the Barclays Africa Group. He started his Absa career in September 2006 as CFO for Absa Capital.

He has a BCom degree from Rhodes University and is qualified as a chartered accountant.

O’Flaherty is currently an independen­t nonexecuti­ve director of Absa. His previous roles include group CEO at Al Naboodah in Dubai, UAE; CEO of ArcelorMit­tal SA and finance director and group capital executive at Eskom Holdings.

O’Flaherty has a BCom and a bachelor of accounting degree from Wits University and is a qualified chartered accountant. Iain Banner has been appointed to the board of the Cape Wine Auction Trust.

Banner is the co-founder of a number of companies, events and charities, including Sports Internatio­nal, the Gary Player Design Company, the Laureus World Sport Awards, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and the Alfred Dunhill Links Championsh­ip.
