The percentage of GDP earned through tourism in “the world’s most touristy city”, Cancun, Mexico. According to a recent report by the World Tourism and Travel Council, of all the world’s cities, Cancun is most reliant on tourism for its survival. Over half of its tourism spending comes from foreign visitors. The US makes up the bulk of these at 63%, although Canadian visitors now comprise a larger share of inbound travel than in previous years. The report found that other “touristy” cities include Dubrovnik, Croatia, where 17.4% of GDP comes from tourism; and Venice, Italy (11.4%).
