JANICE, PLAUTUS AND SOPHIA

-

When the UK’s Royal Shakespeare Company commissioned an adaptation of a Roman play by Plautus, artistic director Greg Doran said: “Who is the rudest person I know? Aah, there’s this director in SA.“And so Janice Honeyman became the director of Vice Versa, which opened in Stratford-upon-Avon in May 2017. Sophia Nomvete (left) played the lead, which was originally written as a male white role. Honeyman says: “She walked in and I said, ‘We don’t have to do the audition; that’s her,’ and we cast her and she was wonderful.”
