Tsamaya

This week’s soccer buzz

-

● It is always amusing how quick football owners forget the sterling work done by their coaches when the results go haywire. So it was with regret this week when Tsamaya learned of the imminent sacking of coach Fadlu Davids at the struggling Maritzburg United.

Former Davids’ mentor Ernst Middendorp is being mentioned among those lurking to take his job the moment Maritzburg bosses show him the door. Tsamaya can only hope that Maritzburg owners come to their senses and remember how Davids revived the team’s fortunes last season.

● Banyana Banyana’s heroics at the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana have not gone unnoticed with social media abuzz this week with congratulations following their qualification for next year’s Women’s Fifa World Cup in France.

Tsamaya is pleading with everyone, especially those suits who’ve done nothing to support the team, to give players a chance to bask in the limelight when they land at OR Tambo Airport this evening. The players and coach Desiree Ellis must be given a platform to talk about their exploits in Ghana while the officials get on with the job of organising better incentives and sponsorships for the deserving team.
