Survive the jobs revolution

-

● Many of the jobs that have been part of the working landscape for generations will disappear or change shape, according to Dean Furman, the CEO and founder of 1064 Degrees.

“Many traditional jobs will become obsolete and replaced by technology. Companies are likely to revert more to using freelancers, rather than hire permanent staff. Companies are likely to allow more workers to work remotely as the technology improves. Self-driving cars will also cause a change, where people will be able to spend their commuting time working rather than driving.”

He has the following advice on how to keep up with these changes:

● As machines take over the more predictable and repetitive tasks, people will focus more on those jobs that machines cannot do, including decisionmaking, creativity and story-telling.

● The best way to stay abreast of the developments is to view education as a daily rather than a one-off experience.

● Keep in touch with the relentless change of technology and be employable.

● Some of the jobs of the future include: human-machine co-ordinator, technology educator and drone manager. — Margaret Harris
