The rand equivalent of Rs 2,000 — the fine you’ll face if you’re caught drinking in public in Goa, India, under new penalties approved by the state government. If you’re drinking in a group, however, the fine rises to Rs 10,000 each.

Though Goa has long been known as a laid-back, beach-party spot, the government has now banned alcohol in public places, along with cooking food out in the open, to deal with tourists breaking bottles, making noise and disturbing locals. Beach shacks will still operate, but you’ll have to consume there — and won’t be able to take your drink with you.
