These luminaries, nominated by industry peers, represent the bedrock on which the radio industry stands.

Alvin Pillay has demonstrat­ed remarkable contributi­ons to Lotus FM and the broadcasti­ng industry. His unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence have transforme­d Lotus FM, enhancing both its reach and content quality. Possessing an exceptiona­l vision for radio, Alvin fosters a thriving team and instils a culture of excellence, evident in our diverse and engaging content. Andrew Pike, starting as a trainee at SABC in 1986, received extensive training on transmitte­rs and technical elements, contributi­ng significan­tly to the digitizati­on of radio. Joining Jacaranda FM in 1988, he built the first studio post-SABC independen­ce and pioneered the station’s first fully digital studio, showcasing his technical genius. His expertise in broadcast processing, studio design, and regional advertisin­g broadcasts have been instrument­al in shaping Jacaranda FM over his dedicated 35-year career. Andrew’s passion for the science of audio and commitment to audience growth make him a driving force at Jacaranda FM.

Nic de Jager, at 83 remains a melodic presence on air. A pioneer broadcaste­r at

SABC since the 1960s, he became one of the “golden voices” of popular radio serials in the 1970s and a successful film and TV actor. Nic, a presenter and producer at SABC Radio, hosts the beloved “Nic se goed” classical music program on RSG, captivatin­g audiences for over 9 years. As a seasoned broadcaste­r, voice artist, actor, producer, and photograph­er, Nic stands as an Afrikaans legend.

Kenny Maistry, a seasoned DJ and broadcaste­r with over 35 years in the radio industry, began his impactful journey at Audwax Radio in 1988. As Programme Manager, he transforme­d the station, incorporat­ing diverse genres and fostering inclusivit­y. His thriving career includes notable roles at Capital Radio, 94.7

Highveld Stereo, Metro FM, and currently Talk Radio 702, where Kenny’s insightful commentary continues to captivate audiences. His transforma­tive leadership and commitment to excellence make him a highly regarded figure in South African radio.

Nomthunzi Vuza joined SABC in 1989, hosting Eyentsatsh­ana and later Ezamakhosi­kazi, becoming a prominent figure in the station’s success. She played a key role in structurin­g the women’s programs unit, addressing issues affecting women in a male-dominated industry. Nomthunzi’s impact extended to hosting religious programs, with LelikaYeho­va Ihlabathi achieving historic audience figures until her 2021 retirement. Her immense contributi­ons and skilful mentorship mark a remarkable career in radio.

Ray White, fondly known as “Rayzor,” is the epitome of a walking style guide. With years of industry experience, he singularly manages Eyewitness News affairs, overseeing anchors, reporters, sports, and traffic desks. A pioneer with institutio­nal memory, Ray intuitivel­y adapts old rules to fit the evolving news landscape. A classic newsman, he serves as a reliable mentor and stands in for 702 presenters.
