IF YOU HAVE 2HOURS

Masters of the Air Apple TV +

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks reteam as producers of this third instalment in their investigation into the lives and bravery of American WW2 soldiers. Following on from ‘Band of Brothers’ and ‘The Pacific’, this time we’re in the company of the dashing, daredevil pilots of the US Air Force involved in the Allied bombing campaign in Europe. It’s a compelling and dramatic tribute to the sacrifices and courage shown by ordinary young men thrown into the tumult and frustratingly absurd chaos of war.

IF YOU HAVE 3 HOURS

Archie Britbox

Jason Isaacs does a dedicated, respectable impression of Hollywood legend Cary Grant in this uneven but engaging biopic series telling the story of how Archibald Leach, a poor lad from Bristol, reinvented himself, soared to the heights of international stardom, sacrificed much on his way and tried his best to live with the consequences.

IF YOU HAVE 6HOURS

Griselda Netflix

Sophia Vergara dons a prosthetic nose and gives a steely-eyed glare as Griselda Blanco, the legendary Cocaine Godmother who reigned over the drug world of Miami in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Somewhat loose with the facts in the service of drama, but solidly thrilling and blood-soaked, it’s a tale of power and hubris that’s elevated thanks to the dedication of its star.

IF YOU HAVE 7 HOURS

The Long Shadow Prime Video

A dark refocusing of the story of the years of terror that Yorkshire Ripper Peter Sutcliffe’s terrible murders wrought on the psyches of not just Northern England but British society at large. Casting its eye on the victims of Sutcliffe’s killings and the stubborn misogyny of the police charged with catching him, which meant false leads and delays and enabled him to continue for longer, the show is more social history than whodunnit and benefits as a result.

IF YOU HAVE 7 HOURS

Champion Netflix

A family drama set in the UK grime music industry that overcomes its soap opera pitfalls thanks to a strong empathy with the South London community in which it is set. Déja J Bowens plays Vita Champion, the overlooked younger sister to her older brother, rapper Bosco (Malcolm Kamulete), who, after years being the silent writing partner in her brother’s career, realises that she has the talent to make it on her own, much to the incredulity of her family.
