Guard’s Charlize crush steals the Oscars show

● Benoni-born beauty Charlize Theron got tongues wagging at the 96th Academy Awards last Sunday evening.

Not only did the stunning actress turn heads on the red carpet in an elegant silver Dior gown, Boucheron jewels, and a glistening bun hairstyle — but she triggered a social media frenzy after making a joke about tying the knot.

Theron, 48, topped best-dressed lists worldwide for her metallic bespoke creation, paired with a stunning cascade of rare jewellery from the French designer’s ultraexclusive Quatre collection. Theron’s longtime stylist, Leslie Fremar, helped to put together the look.

On Friday, Theron made headlines after posting a montage of photos on Instagram — where she has 7.6-million followers — with the caption: “Made some new friends, partied with old friends, celebrated incredibly talented friends, got married. Busy week for me.”

Her “husband” is US talkshow personality Guillermo Rodriguez, 53, who shot to fame as a Hollywood Boulevard parking lot security guard for the late-night talkshow Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Kimmel, who hosted the Oscars this year for the fourth time, brought Rodriguez onto his show as one of his sidekicks in 2003.

At the Oscars this month, Rodriguez, who wore a flashy gold tuxedo and distributed tequila to the audience, told the crowd: “I love my beautiful wife, Ms Charlize Theron. You’re my angel.”

Rodriguez’s remark prompted laughter, and Theron herself smiled and replied: “Wow — I didn’t know we were married.”

Fan Julian Gamboa posted on social media that “Charlize and Guillermo are not just dating, but married,” which Theron reposted, adding: “Oh, and I got married! Love you, honey!”

Rumours about the “marriage” continued to swirl, spurred by the fact that Theron put her 290m2 Los Angeles home on sale for $3.75m (about R70m) last month. A buyer has already emerged.

The three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom renovated home was built in the 1960s and features a media room, lagoon pool with a spa/waterfall, braai station and outdoor patio.

The home, with views of Los Angeles, is on a private drive off the famous Mulholland Drive in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains.

The street has been home to an enclave of A-list stars such as Madonna, Warren Beatty, John Lennon, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.

Theron bought it for $3m a few months after she won the 2004 Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

She was glowing at this year’s Oscars, where she presented the “best actress in a leading role” award.

In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 177cm tall actress said: “I think the older you get, the more you want to feel good about your skin.”

The Oscars ended up with 19.5-million viewers this year, according to Nielsen data, the highest figure in four years.
