In Brief Rich, tidy nation’s dark side on view

- Staff reporter

A COURT in Singapore this week charged a teenager over a video critical of the nation’s late founder, Lee Kuan Yew, who died last month.

Amos Yee Pang Sang, 16, was also charged with insulting Christianity, the New York Daily News reported.

In the eight-minute clip posted on YouTube, Yee said Lee, Singapore’s first prime minister, and Christ were both “malicious”. Yee asked whether Singapore residents truly enjoyed the prosperity the country attained in more than 50 years under Lee’s leadership.

If found guilty, Yee could face up to three years in prison. —
