Media ‘put lives at risk’ in Paris siege
FRENCH media failed to take basic precautions when they broadcast images from the siege in a Jewish supermarket during January’s Islamist attacks in Paris, said a lawyer.
Six people who hid in a supermarket refrigerator during the attack by gunman Amedy Coulibaly have sued the media for broadcasting their location during the siege.
This was “tantamount to goading someone to commit a crime”, said their lawyer.
The charge of endangering the lives of others by deliberately ignoring security protocols carries a maximum penalty of a year in prison and a à15 000 (about R190 000) fine.
