France to free ’94 genocide suspect
FRANCE will release a man accused of involvement in the 1994 Rwanda massacre after the Paris appeal court ruled in his favour on Friday.
Claude Muhayimana, who obtained French nationality in 2010, was arrested a year ago in the northern city of Rouen.
Rwandan authorities have requested his extradition, accusing him of involvement in the killing of thousands of people in a church and a stadium in the western district of Kibuye. But France’s appeals court refused to extradite him on the grounds that the crime of genocide was not on the statute books in Rwanda in 1994 .
