What do you do?

I am in charge of running, planning and developing innovative courses at iXperience. These courses include coding, finance and consulting. I design the course material, and I also source the best instructor­s in the respective fields to come and teach at iXperience in Cape Town.

A lot of my time is also spent recruiting students from the top colleges in the US. I travel to the US and speak to students at top universiti­es about the opportunit­y to accelerate their careers in South Africa. I enjoy the creative process of developing the courses, the opportunit­y to inspire new ways of thinking — not just when it comes to theory, but also in life. I believe it is very important to encourage a work-life balance, and it is something we follow to the fullest at iXperience.

How did you find yourself in this role?

It’s been quite an interestin­g path. My family and I lived on a farm in Klapmuts, outside Cape Town. The world was quite confined, but then I took a shot at applying for a bursary at Yale — and I got it! It opened a bigger world to me.

After Yale, I landed a job on Wall Street, which was fast-paced and exciting but at the same time I was acutely aware of opportunit­ies in South Africa.

I was doing research into developing countries at that stage, and while I realised that everything in South Africa wasn’t moonshine and roses, the ability to make a change was not lost on me.

With that in mind, I returned and founded iXperience as a way to introduce UK and American students to the country, while encouragin­g them to make a
