AT dawn on Thursday, Frederick John Harris was executed in Pretoria for the murder of Mrs Ethel Rhys, 78, in the Johannesburg station bomb explosion . . .
Now in her own statement . . . 26-year-old Ann Harris speaks of her last hours with her husband and her life with him . . . because she wants the facts, as she sees them, to be made known: “People ask me if I will change my name, but I will not. I was the wife of John Harris, for better or for worse . . . I will not desert himnow . . .
“I love him still. I will always remember my last visits when we stood in a small room in the Pretoria jail, two screens of mesh between us. We felt so close it did not matter that I could not even hold him when we said goodbye and there were two warders beside us.”— April 4 1965
