A BUSINESSMAN is making legal history by suing his doctor for allegedly telling his family and friends he has AIDS.

The Brakpan man, who is in his early 30s, says the doctor’s alleged breach of confidentiality ruined his life. He is seeking R50 000 damages.

The man was diagnosed HIV-positive last year and has now started to show the physical signs of AIDS-related illness, although his sexual partner is free of infection.

When his civil case comes before the Rand Supreme Court on Tuesday, the man’s legal team will ask that his identity be protected. — August 18 1991
