Wiser way to unite humanity
THE article by Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, “Battle against racism is really a long-distance human race” (September 11), is a mindful invitation to engage in healing dialogue with each other.
“Living, working and playing together are not enough”, as she says. We need to be bold and imaginative to reach deeper. Pumla invites us in a gentle and imaginative way to decolonise our white identities, recalibrate our inherited value systems and challenge our intergenerational cultural norms.
This is so much kinder and wiser than hardening the lines of “othering” through criticism, aggression and violence; just see where that has taken America today and Europe tomorrow. — Elke Geising, Fish Hoek
