Mr Price: cheap, cheesy, charmless

-

FASHION editor Jenny Andrew is quite right when she says some “fashion houses” have lost the plot, “Weather and rivals wrong-foot Mr Price” (September 18).

I am just an ordinary 63-yearold consumer and have been gobsmacked at what has been on offer for at least the past three or four seasons.

I do not purchase a lot of items from Mr Price for myself, but as I have four grandchildren ranging in age from 10 to 17, I make regular forays into the stores. There is just nothing worth “spoiling” the kids with.

Further on in the article, a “fashion industry analyst” who does not want to be named because she works closely with the retailer effectively dissed an entire generation of women who may not be followers of high fashion but nevertheless have been staunch supporters of Miladys for many years.

In the past, Miladys was known for its good-quality clothes at reasonable to slightly more costly prices.

Yes, those of us who bought there may not have been featured on the fashion pages, but we looked good. Now, however, if one casts one’s eye over the clothes on offer, it is a debacle. Who on earth is responsible for ordering those cheap-looking, badly made and badly designed clothes? — Liz Finlay, by e-mail
